One of the first albums with the word Psychedelic in it was produced by The Blues Magoos titled Psychedelic Lollipop(1966). "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet" was a for 5 single off that album in 1967.

I have no idea how to classify this record. At the time it was called baroque Rock. A top 15 record in 1967. A fake band for a kinda bad movie. A top 30 hit in '68 In the film anyone over 30 was put in to a concentration camp. The Underdogs were a east side band and were held up as a positive example at my east side elementary school. This track is from 1966 and in my opinion should have been a hit. In my estimation there is no greater artist than Van Morrison. Van's first band "THEM", a group of Irish lads, produced the Big Bang of Rock & Roll. 1965's "Mystic Eyes" Status Quo had a huge hit with this Psychedelic tune, "Pictures of Matchstick Men", in 1968. They went on to become a very successful Glam band in the Seventies. The scene was a small one, almost tiny. Leather jackets and mini-skirts were the wardrobe of choice. We'd gather at some rough bar, invariably with a small stage in one corner, to check out the latest band. Generally, almost always, the club/bar was located in a old broken down neighborhood. After the band(s) finished and the bar/club closed a few of us, usually including musicians, would head for a bar that would sell us a couple six packs after hours. Then we'd drive around all night amongst the empty desolate buildings of Detroit. Some of us have passed on, some went on to fame and success most have led interesting albeit normal lives. It's the early morning drives I miss most. Filmmaker Jim Jarmusch has given a gift to Detroit. The creator of such films as "Down by Law", "Dead Man". "Mystery Train" and "Year of the Horse" has written and directed "Only Lovers Left Alive" a myth about vampires. This not a horror film although it is about Vampires. It has been called a comedy and a romance movie. To me it looks like a home movie from my youth. Adam and Eve, the Vampires, enjoy early morning drives around the devastated areas of Detroit where most of the film takes place. Jarmusch captures the grander of the city with out resorting to ruin porn. "Only Lovers Left Alive" is Jarmusch's finest work. The "Zombies" last album from 1967. This English band started in 1962 and had many hits. The Human Beinz- "Nobody but Me" This was a hit and a lot of fun! |
Jeff AllenVertical asked me to join his blog as a guest expert on "Nuggets" era music... Psychedelic, Garage and Fuzz. Are there others more qualified? You bet, but they weren't asked. He's also letting me write about anything I want… We'll see.
