Somewhere around 1983, I toured WOMC-FM Detroit with my Cub Scout pack. They gave us this coloring book that explained it all.
My most vivid memory of this day was finishing the tour by watching the new WOMC TV commercial. The punchline to the commercial was the narrator asking a DJ "What would Detroit be without the 'Big O'?". Then the DJ says "I dunno... Detrit?" I looked for the video on YouTube with no success. If you know where to find it, I'd love to see it!
On this blog, I'll go page by page in the book, comparing 1983's idea of radio to today's. It's actually quite similar, save a few minor differences. For example: Radio stations were once given money by their owners to promote the station and hire the best people for each job.
Today, people aren't really necessary, except for the Sales department. As soon as they figure out how to computerize that department, the radio industry's dream shall be realized.
But I ain't bitter...

The inside cover is a very modern orange. When I saw this at thirteen years old, I knew I was glimpsing a future trendy color.
