The Ticket Stub Project begins...

12/31/2011

I have made this assignment for myself. I will document as many of the concerts from which I have kept the ticket stubs.  There were some shows where I didn't have a ticket, or it was eventually lost.  There's not much I can do to figure out which shows those were, so I'm not going to worry about them.

I wish that I was going to start with an amazing story, but it was pretty much just a regular 'ol New Year's Party.  I guess it's appropriate that it's not a bigger deal, since Saturdays and holidays are not heavily-trafficked internet times.

So today, it begins, with bigger and better stories to come. Please add any memories or comments of your own when you can!

Tomorrow, The Ticket Stub Project begins. I may need your memories for that feature which will run all year long.

Unseen Cinema will continue to be updated regularly, and new features are coming, including more interviews from my archives...

2012 has a lot in store for this site. Thanks for being here on the ground floor, and don't forget to share anything you find shareable here!

Nearing the end

We're nearing the end of the Welcome to Our Radio Station feature.  Next week, I'll need your help and ideas to finish it all up, so get those brains ready! You might see your name on The Internet!

Yesterday, I added a new entry to Unseen Cinema, another classic review of a classic movie!

And my ongoing feud with Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson continues unabated.

Me & Neil

Holiday internet is boring!

UNLESS...

...you make The Vertical Files your new daily destination!

You probably heard last night on the news about the bitter feud going on between me and Neil deGrasse Tyson, a leading astrophysicist and, since 1996, the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History on Manhattan's Upper West Side. For years, he's been reading my theories about astrophysics and passing them off as his own.

I can deal with that. It doesn't really bother me that much. I'm not looking to make my name in astrophysics, just looking to advance science for the good of humanity. What does bother me, however, is when he obviously reads my Facebook status, and then just copies it like it doesn't even matter.

You will notice that shortly BEFORE 6pm Monday night, I Tweeted about how cool the moon looked, which was posted to my Facebook page.  Shortly AFTER 6pm, see who decided to post about the exact same thing?

I had a ten-minute lead on that story, and does he give me credit?  Heck no. That's what famous scientists do, I guess. Egghead idea thieves.

Dr. T (if that is in fact your real name), you may contact me to discuss this matter here. Otherwise, we have nothing else to say to each other. Feel free to keep the Arrested Development DVDs that you borrowed from me until we clear this up.

Today, new Welcome to Our Radio Station!  New Unseen Cinema!

Try not to steal these ideas, Neil. Thanks.

Hope your holiday season is going well!  This time of year, the internet is very quiet (except for lots of end-of-the-year lists).

BUT!

Not here at The Vertical Files!  We strive to bring you quality entertainment nearly almost practically just about every day!

Check out today's new Welcome To The Radio Station.  Get ready, because next week it becomes an interactive feature.  You'll need to be ready to either print or scan or Photoshop a picture or some combination of such things. (it'll make sense, promise) Warm up your technology and creativity!

You may have missed Kwame's Holiday greetings from Friday.  Now you haven't!

Tomorrow, new Unseen Cinema! (guess I'd better get to writing that)

The Most Interesting Story Ever Told

12/23/2011

I wanted to post this much earlier today, but I needed my scanner. Couldn't get it to turn on.  Checked the power cord on each end 183 times, and gave up.

Then I noticed that the cord we detached in the middle, at the transformer, so I plugged it in. Thus ends The Most Interesting Story Ever Told.  You're welcome.

Today: Holiday Greetings from Kwame Kilpatrick for the weekend, and the latest Welcome to Our Radio Station.

If you find a fun corner of my site I hope you share it. Yesterday, the audience for this site jumped by about 30%. That's thanks to you!

Stick around in 2012... Together, we're* going to make this site fun!

Happy Holidays!

My New Job

12/22/2011

Back in November I was politely asked by management at the radio station not to work there anymore so the CEO could put more money in his pocket.  Fair enough.  I'm a logical fellow.  I can see where my not being employed will help someone else have one of those holidays in the commercials where somebody buys somebody else a car with a big red ribbon on it.  Surprise!  I'm always glad to help (when asked, and given enough notice).

So I thought "Hey!  I'll do this new job where I make a website.  I'll be a Website Maker!"  Turns out that's not the job I have.  My new job is "Writer", which is something I totally forgot about in the process of being a Website Maker.  "Writer" means I gotta write.  A lot.  All the time.  As good writing as I can be doing for me to do.

That's a new thing for me, writing all the time.  I like it, but it takes so much more of my brainspace than I anticipated.  Lucky for you, I already wrote the latest installment of Welcome to Our Radio Station, which is up today.

Yesterday I featured The Eminem Bench, and Tuesday was new Unseen Cinema.  If you haven't tried the poll yet, it's delicious!

I have to go write now.

I have to go right now.

See?  Spelling counts!

Is it Christmas yet?

Took the little one to visit Santa yesterday at the mall.  There, I encountered The Eminem Bench. It was a powerful, life-changing moment.

Even with that amazing experience, I still had time to update Welcome to Our Radio Station. In case you missed it, there's also a new Unseen Cinema, just for you.

And please take a couple of seconds to vote in my poll.  So far, I'm getting good responses, will you please add yours?

Thanks again for visiting.  If there's something here that you dig, I hope you share it with a friend (or an enemy, or a stranger... I'm not picky).

Sure Lock

Last night, I went to go see the new Sherlock Holmes movie.  I want to say I liked it, but I fell asleep during the big Holmes/Moriarity face-off near the end.  I didn't hate it, I guess it just made me sleepy.

Having a passing knowledge of the original Holmes stories, I knew what was going to happen once I saw the waterfall.  Maybe that's why I got sleepy.  Or maybe it's because the movie is bathed in drab, quiet, grey colors... I'm getting sleepy just thinking about it...

The Dark Knight Rises trailer was released yesterday.  As pointed out at io9.com, the Robin logo is seen in the football crowd. Plus, the team color is yellow (Robin wears yellow), and we see the name of "Ward".  Burt Ward played Robin on the 60's Batman TV show. I don't think Robin will be mentioned in the movie, but I think the spirit of "someone younger following in Batman's footsteps" will be be an undercurrent of the movie.

See that "R"? Of course you do.
TODAY! New Unseen Cinema!  New Welcome To Our Radio Station!

If you have a couple of seconds, please participate in my first-ever, crazy-exciting poll, the results of which may or may not matter.

Thanks again for checking out The Vertical Files!

OK, you know about the new Unseen Cinema, but I'd like to add even more regular features.  With only the titles to guide you, which of these do you think you might like?
Even if you have no interest in the poll or the website or even basic democracy, could you pick one anyway? It'll take, like two seconds.  It's my first poll, and I'd like to see how these things really work.

After the results seem to have leveled off, I'll pick the new feature. I may or may not actually take the poll into account, because what you might think is a clever title, I may think is quite a horrible idea.

You rock.
