There's a new King of Radio today! Woo!
Monday, a new Ticket Stub Project entry was posted! Electrifying! Make weekend plans to visit Northern Michigan! Amazing! After a week of having a head cold, and basically cocooning on the couch, we have a new Ticket Stub Project Entry! It's two days late. First, because of the cold, then because of web hosting issues.
I could have had it up yesterday, if I hadn't spent so much time creating an archive for the Ticket Stub Project. I'm glad I did it, but it took longer than I thought. But our long, national nightmare of "no Vertical Files" is over. We're finishing up the week here at The Vertical Files with a weekend travel idea: The Michigan Legacy Art Park. It's a great way to spend the afternoon, or morning I guess. I wouldn't know, I'm not a morning person.
A few days ago, I gave a shout-out to our young girls in the Girl Scouts. Support them if you can. Two new concert reviews showed up this week in The Ticket Stub Project: Sting and Lenny Kravitz & The Cult. If you're looking for new music for your collection, check out The King of Radio. You'll hear some of my favorites. And don't forget to find me on Facebook to get regular updates and extra stuff that I don't post here! Last month, there was an outcry about a Girl Scout Troop allowing a transgender child to enjoy things like camping and making pot holders with other girls. A cookie boycott was suggested. The kerfuffle seems to have died down a little, but the original story is on CNN here. Now, more than a month later, a GOP representative from Fort Wayne, Indiana has taken a break from trying to control grown women's bodies, and moved on to controlling little girls' instead. Check out the latest story here. Boy Scouts are immune from this kind of criticism, because they already disallow gay and atheist members. They conform with the American Conservative agenda, which of course is boys good, girls bad. Children shouldn't be allowed to be used as pawns in their parents' political and religious agendas, but they are. It's just too bad. I offer you this picture above as a sign of support to our young ladies who need guidance and direction. Girl Scouts help provide a diverse community for some girls who may otherwise never get such a structure in their lives. If you have an opportunity to buy an extra box of cookies, do it. Do it for a young lady that you don't even know. Get started here! On a lighter note, there's a new Ticket Stub Project posted today, and some new songs were added yesterday to The King of Radio. I'm so happy for you that you get to experience these songs for the first time! Get more neat whatnot at my Facebook page! There was a twitter trend happening today called #replacebandsnamewithpancake, where you replace parts of a band's name with the word "pancake". So it would be Stone Temple Pancakes or Nine Inch Pancakes, etc.
I would like to take this opportunity to take credit for that trend about 12 years ago. When radio was allowed to be fun and silly, I would randomly do "Pancake Night", where I would replace song titles with the word "pancake". It caused a ripple in the radio community as no one noticed. Ah, well... if only I had some proof of those nights. But I don't. You'll just have to take my word for it. There's another new King of Radio today, and there'll be another Ticket Stub Project tomorrow! Don't forget to find me on Facebook! Get regular updates and more! I love lasagna, and hate Mondays, unless it's lasagna filled with onions, then forget it. Or if it's a Monday where I'm in a good mood, then it's a good day. There really are no absolutes in life, are there? The latest installment of King of Radio features three songs to get your body moving on a Monday (or any other day of the week, really). Yesterday marked the 24th anniversary of the first time I saw Sting live in concert. I share my thoughts about Mr. Gordon Sumner in the latest Ticket Stub Project. There's another Ticket Stub Project to come later this week! Happy Valentine's Day! As a treat for you today, I've created a brand new feature: King of Radio. It's where I'll put videos of songs I love and want to hear on the radio. Look for it in the Radio Bucket. Today's Ticket Stub Project is a slightly confusing trip into the past featuring one of my all-time favorite bands, The Replacements. The Vertical Files has a Facebook page. Make sure you "like" it to get the Full Extreme Vertical Experience! This will be the third time I'm typing this. There's something glitchy happening causing me to lose this entry again and again. It gets shorter every time I retype it. There's a new Ticket Stub entry today, exactly one week after the David Gray recap. It's the Mighty Lemon Drops and pals! Doing research for the article, I noticed that the Wikipedia page for Saint Andrew's Hall is surprisingly empty. Don't you think that's odd? That pic is a clue to the next entry in the Starbase 1138:42 blog, then I have more memories to dump into the Radio Bucket. This weekend, I'll be back at the Redford Theatre to see Charade starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. I've never seen it before. I'll let you know how that goes! There will be three more Ticket Stub entries in February. You're in for a really good month! I created a new home page for you to land on when you visit me. It should make things slightly easier to navigate. I think it's pretty self-explanatory, so I won't waste your time explaining it.
Everything is still here. Unseen Cinema has been reassigned to Starbase 1138:42. Interviews and Welcome to Our Radio Station have been poured into the Radio Bucket. And this "What's New?" page replaces the old Home Page. Dang it. I said I wasn't going to explain it! This slightly tweaked format will make it easier for me organize, and hopefully easier for you to enjoy The Vertical Files. |
What's New?Check out that list over on the left. It's filled with essays that are honest, funny and written with you in mind. Please enjoy your time here, and come back soon! Were you going to buy something at Amazon? Use the search box below to find it!
