On the plus side, he's got the wireless headphones from the future he won in a fiddle contest with The Devil. Unfortunately, wireless tech wasn't available in 1983, so he mostly just hears static. That probably explains the late needle-drop on the LP.
Notice also, that he is a pleasant looking fellow, but his features are all pushed toward the center of his face. This is known as "a face for radio".
The strange machine behind him is a "reel-to-reel" machine. See your local museum for details. In sixteen minutes his shift is over, and the reel-to-reel will take over.
Also, he is overdressed. Even for 1983.
