One of the first psychedelic bands, The 13th. Floor Elevators, were really a garage band from Austin, Texas. While their 1966 song "You're Gonna Miss Me" only charted at #55 it was an enormously influtional record. Singer/guitarist Roky Eckerson suffered with schizophrenia for many years yet still continues to tour as a solo act.

Rumor had it the band was unable to reproduce the album live so they broke up. It's not true. As MR.Hearst used to say "always print the rumor"
